Read Matthew Kangas' Review of Henry Jackson-Spieker's, "Interstitial Volume" Installation in Sculpture Magazine
For “Interstitial Volume” (on view through April 1, 2023), Henry Jackson-Spieker has created three discrete installations related to the architecture of MadArt, a glass-fronted storefront space in South Lake Union, Seattle’s high-tech skyscraper ghetto. Referring to spaces in between, separations or lines, this show (the Seattle-based artist’s third presentation in the city since “Sight Lines,” his 2019 debut exhibition, at Method Gallery) employs ordinary and state-of-the-art materials to explore three recurring themes—“tension, perception, and environment.”

David Lutrick, member of American Woodturners Association and Pratt woodworking instructor, wrote an article for the American Woodturner Magazine, December 2022 issue, on how to create decorative elements for woodworking projects, like bowls and other turned pieces, using router tools. David's detailed instructions on tools and technique help woodworkers add visual interest to their pieces. You can also learn how to make decorative bowls and vessels in his frequent woodworking classes at Pratt.
Pratt Fine Arts Center Introduces New Executive Director, Jessica Borusky
SEATTLE, WA – Pratt Fine Arts Center welcomes Jessica Borusky (they/them) as Executive Director. Arts Consulting Group worked with Pratt to conduct a North American search for this position, and Jessica’s arrival on January 12, 2023 heralds the next phase of growth and development for Pratt as a vital contributor to the Pacific Northwest visual arts community.
Describing their role at Pratt, Jessica said, “I am thrilled to expand Pratt’s mission of providing accessible arts education for all, while uplifting the incredible art practices of Pratt’s teaching staff and students. I look forward to learning from, and connecting with the Pratt, Seattle, and Pacific Northwest communities, including the awe-inspiring natural surroundings.“
Pratt Announces Scholarship and Awards Recipients
Pratt Fine Arts Center welcomes 17 artists who join its creative community through the largest scholarship opportunity ever offered, with $49,700 in total funding.
Reinforcing the organization’s mission of arts education access for everyone, this year’s scholarships invite artists working in glass; jewelry/metals; painting/drawing/printmaking/mixed media; and wood/stone/metal sculpture to continue their artistic careers at Pratt, supported by class fees, studio access, and a stipend for material expenses.
Congratulations to Pratt's Glass Studio Manager, Fumi Amano, on receiving the 2022 Saxe Emerging Artist Award!
In recognition of her artistry, skill, and unique expression, Fumi has been named 2022 Saxe Emerging Artist Award Winner, one of three chosen from 40 applicants. She will present her work at Tacoma 2022, Glass Art Society’s annual conference - #316/317 in the Greater Tacoma Convention Center from 11:00am on May 20.
Fumi is joining the international community of glass artists coming to the Pacific Northwest, May 18-21. Over 100 presenters from 17 countries will gather for this four-day conference to reflect on the last 50 years of glassmaking and imagine the next 50 years of creating, collecting, and teaching glass art.
Pratt’s Online Holiday Art Sale Returns For Its Second Year: November 22 – December 12
SEATTLE, WA – Pratt’s Online Holiday Art Sale returns for its second year & will take place from Monday, November 22 – Sunday, December 12 at pratt.org/shop. New inventory and surprises will be added to the shop every Monday throughout the duration of the sale. The virtual art sale continues the longstanding tradition of Pratt hosting a holiday art sale at its Central Area location outside of Pratt Park.
The sale will feature artworks by over 75 local PNW artists and offers a unique variety of thoughtful keepsakes to choose from for the gift-giving season including artisanal works in: drawing, painting, print, wood, jewelry, metal and sculpture, glass, home goods and décor, textiles, stationery, ceramics, and holiday-themed gifts.
Each purchase directly supports Pratt’s arts programs & local artists as they’ll have the opportunity to expand their audience and gain experience selling their work online.
