Miriam Di Fiore
Glass Fusing, Flameworking
MIRIAM DI FIORE was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1959. At the age of five, her family moved to Miramar, where she spent time in the pine forests and sand dunes. The forest remains her favorite place to be. She earned a degree in pottery, and then moved to Italy in 1980 where she opened her own studio in Milan in 1985. She developed her own technique using frits and stringers, adding the optical effect of depth to her work. In 1999 she showed her work in Murano, and began selling work in the US. Her pieces are in private collections around the world, and in galleries and museums, including the Corning Museum of Glass, Newark Fine Art Museum, Museo Nazional del Vidrio and the Mobil Museum of Fine Art. She began teaching in 1986 and never stopped. She currently teaches summer classes in her home in Mornico Losana.
Her technique combines soft flameworking with fusing, firing the same piece many times. She builds the landscape from the horizon, making lines with glass stringers molded in the flame to make trees and branches; using glass frits like watercolors.
