Sarah Gascoigne's Personal Page
From metalsmithing studies at Central School of Art in London to farming in New Zealand, from training Maoris on computer programming, to homeschooling her 10 children, Sarah’s varied life serves as a foundation for her teaching. Her affiliation with Pratt spans a decade. Having first entered as a student, she soon became a Jewelry/Metals Studio Monitor, then the Studio Rental Program Coordinator, and finally she began teaching in 2005. As an instructor, she encourages her students to learn from making actual pieces and is known for getting her students down to work straight away.
Sarah specializes in repoussé work, with a focus on halos for icons in the traditional Russian style, which is enhanced by her knowledge of natural forms and European folk art.
She also enjoys commission work and designing for local clients and galleries.
She has shown her work in London at Liberty’s and at Goldsmith’s Hall. She had a solo exhibition of her work in 2005 at Frank & Dunya in Seattle. And, in 2011, she exhibited in Flux Capacitor, a steam punk show that was part of the Society of North American Goldsmiths annual conference.
