Jamie Ann Yocono
Woodworking
Las Vegas based furniture maker Jamie Ann Yocono is founder and owner of Studio: Wood It Is, a woodworking school and cabinet shop that builds community around furniture making by offering classes, community events, and bench space for local woodworkers. She attended Ohio University, earning a bachelors in Furniture Design, and completed a four year apprenticeship with the Carpenters Union, achieving journeyman status.
She’s built everything from boxes to buildings, and after relocating to Nevada in 2004, she now teaches for both UNLV and The College of Southern Nevada, running both community based furniture programs.
In her commissioned pieces, Jamie creates one of a kind pieces, combining her handmade ceramic tile and wood with a sensitivity toward material and personal expression. She strives for fine craftsmanship, using machines as a starting point in her process, but focusing on the handwork that makes each piece a unique, heirloom-quality item. Her pieces can be found all over the world, from palaces in Saudi Arabia to homes across the United States and Europe.
